HOLY SHIT. Jayci, you already know how I feel about this because I just called you freaking out! I wanted to let you all know that I talked to a girl at my work who was a vegan for 13 years and knows a lot about this. As she approached me at my desk and I was gasping and near the point of throwing up, she explained that PETA gets all of their footage from meat places that are being shut down for cruelty and illegal things. SO that is good. But stuff like you saw still happens!I have never been full on vegan but I have been down the road of eating soy products that are suppose to be like meat. I have tried almost every soy pattie and I find the best ones to be BOCA products. There are so many yumo vegan foods. I will be venturing back down that road after watching that horrible movie.
Jace- totally don't believe everything you see! Honestly I could only watch half the video before feeling the need to voice my opinion. These are obiously worst case scenarios. Brad's family also raises cows and I have been there when, for example they casterate. They do it when they are young- just like you would give a little baby boy a circumsision. There are also more than one way to do it- to just chop off the nuts with scissors is obiously the worst way. Brad's family- along with MANY other farmers use "green cheerios" That they put around the nuts and it cuts off the circulation and after a couple of days the nuts fall off without an ounce of pain. Also many cow owners do tags in the ears, peirsings (people peirse their little girls ears all the time without concent). ALSO- their skin is a leather, ment to with stand rain, hell, and yes it stings a little, but also branding (no different than a tatoo). This just irriates me totally! Yes, some animals are treated like this- and it shows in the quality of the meat and eggs and what not. They are generally sold at McDonalds, Burger King and WALMART!!! Brad has gone to many cow auctions and the "sickly" cows are sold to fast food resturants. Walmart is a huge culpret for the overbearance of animals. I have listened to a cattle raiser say they can't take care of their animals properly because Walmart has driven down the cost so much. That cost reflects at the quality of meat. So meat lover- buy good quality meat! Those cows and chickens have likely been taken care of.
Jace, sorry! I told you to be careful before you checked it out. I agree with what your friend said above, and also, it's impossible to be 100% vegan 100% of the time. Sometimes you have no idea what is in what you are eating, what you are wearing and what you are putting on your skin. But, in my opinion, the small things make a huge difference. Try soy milk or rice milk. Eat more veggies and only meat when you have to. Everyone freaks out and wonders how in the world you will get all of your protein, but most Americans eat double the required amount of protein. You can eat "fake" meat made of soy and veggies, tofu, legumes, lentils and much more. If you want a meat fix, I suggest buying meat at whole foods and wild oats that comes from free range farms. They have lived a good life, and the claim is the slaughtering conditions on free range farms are better. BUT--YOU NEVER KNOW! That's why I have found it to be easier to just avoid the meat all together. An even better idea if you want meat is to buy local from family farms in Utah. It's hard, but cutting back on meat helps in more ways than one. Not only are we sparing millions of animals' lives, but we are cutting down on emissions used to transport these animals (or their carcases if slaughtered) around the world to eat as well as preserving TONS of grain that is used to feed animals. Could you imagine all of that grain that could be used to feed the hungry people in the world? Anyway, I have a million thoughts on this, and you know where I stand. I am proud of you for looking into it. No one needs to be a Nazi vegan if they don't want to. But, now that you are informed, you know that even small changes can make a huge difference. Love you.
I think I will still stick to my meats. I don't like to even think about where the animal came from, more about how it tastes. :)Yeah, we are coming to Utah August 2-14. It would be great to get together with you and whoever else is around. Let me know when works best for you.
Jayci, thanks for following my "new rule", no one else does. Chris tried not eating meat for a couple of months and was successful, but he just couldn't go the rest of is life never eating pulled pork or a good steak. I guess give it a try... good luck if you do. ;)
So i'm sitting here at work blog hopping and our dang computers don't have "flash player" installed.. Can't really watch your video, but let me tell you something.. This girl at my school is vegetarian and TINY.. I have been picking her little brain on everything she eats and I tried it for a day.. I FAILED miserably... I caved when I got off work around 11:00 p.m.. There was chicken in my fridge and I HAD to eat it.. I LOVE YOU MEAT!!! It really is unfortunate that "SOME" people/companies mistreat animals :(
